PAIN MANAGEMENT IN THE OPTOMETRIC PRACTICE

Steven Sorkin, O.D., is a distinguished optometrist specializing in complex contact lens fits, corneal disease, dry eye, and ocular therapeutics, known for lecturing nationally and internationally and serving as Director of Specialty Contact Lens Services at Corneal Associates of New Jersey. A SUNY Optometry graduate (1993), he's recognized for expertise in fitting difficult cases like keratoconus and post-surgical eyes, holds leadership roles in optometric societies, and was named NJ Optometrist of the Year in 2018.
This course will review the contemporary state of the opioid epidemic in the United States. The roles of topical and oral pain management in eye care will be reviewed and new approaches to the management of ocular pain will be highlighted during this course including narcotic and non narcotic medications and treatments.
ACT 31

Lauren Peterson serves as Executive Director for Safe Monroe. Lauren came to Safe Monroe (then Women's Resources of Monroe County) in 2014 with 10 years of experience in the field of victim services. A graduate of both Immaculata University and West Chester University, she holds degrees in both Sociology/Criminology and her Masters of Public Administration, focusing in Nonprofit Administration. Lauren is proud to be serving survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Monroe County and works hard to create sustainability and growth for the programs at Safe Monroe as it continues to partner with local agencies and the surrounding communities.
Pennsylvania Act 31 training courses teach mandated reporters how to recognize signs of child abuse and neglect (physical, sexual, mental, trafficking, neglect) and their legal duties to report suspected abuse to Pennsylvania's ChildLine, covering legal definitions, the child welfare system, reporting procedures, reporter protections, and penalties for failing to report, fulfilling requirements for initial licensure and renewal for health professionals and others.
