This course will familiarize attendees with Vision Rehabilitation of patients with vision loss from glaucoma. Research pertaining to glaucomatous vision loss and impact on lifestyle will be reviewed. Approach to assessment of vision and review of resources available will be provided. Approach to assessment of vision loss of glaucoma and rehabilitation options for glaucoma patients will be reviewed. Case studies will illustrate the optometrist role in the care of this patient population.

Lecture Objectives

  1. Describe how glaucomatous damage impacts a patient's visual function.
  2. Describe the impact of glaucomatous vision loss on Quality of Life for this patient population.
  3. Assess visual function of patients with vision loss from glaucoma.
  4. List vision rehabilitation options including assistive technology, optical magnification, nonoptical options and referrals.
  5. Develop rehabilitation plans for glaucoma patients involving multidisciplinary care.
